A woman died after being "partially stuck" inside a clothing donation drop box in Florida, officials say.
Authorities responded to reports of a person "stuck in a clothing donation drop box" in Plantation, about 30 miles north of Miami, in the morning of June 27, Plantation Police Department said in a post on Facebook. Officers arrived at the scene to find a "deceased adult female partially stuck in the donation box."
Who was the woman killed?
The woman's identity has not been released and is pending notification of her next of kin.
Police say that the woman was middle-aged and experiencing homelessness. Additionally, both NBC Miami and WSVN have reported that authorities suspect she may have died by asphyxiation while attempting to retrieve items from the large, pink container labeled "Clothes & shoes donation center."
Tragic incident under investigation
The cause of the death is yet to be determined, police said, adding the incident appears to be an accident at the moment, but a full investigation into it is ongoing.
Plantation Police spokesperson Chavez Grant told USA TODAY on June 30 that the incident continues to be under investigation and that there are "no updates at this time."
