Nearly 150,000 customers are without power in Texas after severe storms hit the region over Memorial Day weekend.

As of Tuesday morning, about 139,000 customers in southeast Texas are without power, according to USA TODAY's power outage tracker, which tracks more than 15 million customers.

Early Tuesday morning, areas near Galveston, Texas, which is around 50 miles southeast of Houston, were under a severe thunderstorm warning, and could have faced 60 mph winds and pea-sized hail, according to the National Weather Service in Houston. Houston was under the same warning until 1:45 a.m. local time.

More showers and thunderstorms are expected in the Houston area this week.

Over 100,000 southeast Louisiana customers also lost power on Sunday, around 4:30 p.m. local time, reported local Fox 8 Live.

The outage was caused by a load-shedding order and a controlled power cut issued by the Midcontinent Independent System Operator, MISO, according to a press release published on the state's power provider, Entergy Louisiana's, website.

"The forced outages were directed by MISO as a last resort, and done in order to prevent a more extensive, prolonged power outage that could severely affect the reliability of the power grid," the company stated.
