Disney has suspended its content on YouTube TV — pulling channels like ESPN and ABC from the platform — after the companies failed to reach a new contractual agreement.

"Despite our best efforts, we have not been able to reach a fair deal, and starting today, Disney programming will not be available on YouTube TV," YouTube TV said in a social media statementlate on Oct. 30.

On Oct. 23, YouTube TV said in a statement on its blog that Disney had proposed "costly economic terms that would raise prices on YouTube TV customers and give our customers fewer choices."

Google, the parent company of YouTube TV, and Disney needed to reach an updated contractual agreement to keep the latter's programming on YouTube TV by 11:59 p.m. ET on Thursday, Oct. 30, according to a Google statement obtained by USA TODAY.

In a statement to USA TODAY, Disney said it remains "committed to working toward a resolution as quickly as possible.”

“With a $3 trillion market cap, Google is using its market dominance to eliminate competition and undercut the industry-standard terms we’ve successfully negotiated with every other distributor," the statement said.

In a note to Disney Entertainment and ESPN employees signed by several executives, the company said it is "asking nothing more of YouTube TV than what we have gotten from every other distributor - fair rates for our channels."

YouTube TV offers $20 credit if Disney channels remain pulled

YouTube TV said it will offer subscribers a $20 credit if the Disney channels remain unavailable for an "extended period of time." This time period has not been specified.

This is the third time in a two-month period that YouTube TV has faced a contract dispute with a major network partner.

In August, Google and Fox struggled to reach an updated contractual agreement, and, earlier this month, the same issue arose with Google and NBCUniversal.

Fox and NBCU both argued that Google was not willing to settle on realistic terms and rates for updated contracts; however, contracts were ultimately reached in each case.
