A U.S. Bank executive is presumed dead after a small plane registered in his name crashed into a suburban Minneapolis home in a ball of fire, and he is believed to have been the only one onboard.
The Minneapolis-based financial services company said its chief administration officer Terry Dolan was believed to be on the single-prop plane on Saturday.
"At this time, the medical examiner's office has not been able to confirm whether he was onboard, but we believe he was," company spokesperson Jeffrey Shelman told USA TODAY on Sunday. "Our thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and friends, and anyone who may have been affected by yesterday’s tragic incident."
The SOCATA TBM7 plane crashed around 12:20 p.m. Saturday in a residential area in the Brooklyn Park neighborhood outside of Minneapolis, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The plane departed Des Moines International Airport and crashed six minutes before it was scheduled to land at Anoka County-Blaine Airport in Minneapolis.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will investigate the crash. Based on preliminary information, the NTSB said “the plane impacted a residence and experienced a post-crash fire."
Did anyone survive the Brooklyn Park plane crash?
The NTSB told USA TODAY current evidence indicates "only one person was onboard" the plane at the time of the crash. Dolan was believed to be piloting the plane and was likely the only victim.
All residents of the house were safe, Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Shawn Conway said.
Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said in a social media post he was monitoring the situation and was “grateful” to first responders on the ground.
The NTSB said it plans to release a preliminary report on the crash within 30 days.
